7 ways to find and solve the "Wi-Fi dead zone" at home

Nowadays, Wi-Fi is a matter of course, but since Wi-Fi is composed of radio waves instead of magic, it may be obstructed or interfered with obstacles.

Fortunately, there is a way to identify and eliminate the Wi-Fi dead zone, so if you know that, you can use the Internet anywhere in the house.

Let's take a look at why the Wi-Fi dead zone exists and how to solve it.

What is "Wi-Fi dead zone"?

A dead zone is an area where Wi-Fi, such as homes, apartments, and offices, is a place where the device cannot receive the Wi-Fi signal.

For example, if you enter a dead zone with a smartphone or tablet, you will not be able to receive the Wi-Fi signal.

Why a Wi-Fi dead zone?

Anything that hinders the Wi-Fi radio wave will create a dead zone.

If the building is the cause

If the house or office is large and the wireless router is on the corner of the building, the corner on the other side of the building may be a dead zone that does not reach the Wi-Fi signal.

Most of the existing houses were built before Wi-Fi was developed, so floor plans and building materials could interfere with Wi-Fi.

For example, old houses have thick plaster walls, and their walls may be reinforced with wire mesh. This wire mesh may interfere with the Wi-Fi signal.

Large metal objects such as file cabinets and metal walls may also interfere with Wi-Fi connection.

If other devices are caused

Even if there is another device nearby, the connection may be interfered.

Old cordless phones can create Wi-Fi dead spots, or wi-Fi signals may be blocked using an oven range.

Baby monitors, wireless security systems, and wireless sound systems are also known to cause Wi-Fi connection.

Even if you live in an area where wireless distribution is dense, Wi-Fi coverage may interfere.

For example, if you live in an apartment with a wireless router deployed in all households, a signal that each router will give may be quarreled.

Speaking of the flow, using a Wi-Fi network set at the same wireless frequency as a neighbor may be interfered and the signal strength of the network may decrease.

Because of that, the area around your home can be a dead zone.

How to detect a Wi-Fi dead zone

Dead zone can be found without special software.

Just hold your smartphone or device connected to the wireless network in your hand and walk around the house.

If you look at the Wi-Fi signal intensity indicator of the smartphone, and if the signal strength falls to zero, that is the dead zone.

Be careful when the Wi-Fi signal falls to a very low level.

If there is no secure signal strength, the speed may be slow or the device may not be connected to Wi-Fi.

The Wi-Fi signal strength indicator is not updated immediately, so if you walk around with your smartphone, walk slowly and stop where you want to use Wi-Fi.

Of course, you can also detect Wi-Fi dead zone using software.

In the case of Android, you can display detailed information about Wi-Fi signal strength with a free application called Wifi Analyzer.

Open the app and select a Wi-Fi network from the signal meter screen.

If you walk around with the app open, you can see that the signal strength changes as you move.

Apple does not allow third -party apps to access this information on iOS, so iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users cannot get detailed information in the app.

So you have to look at the Wi-Fi signal strength indicator that is standard on the device.

If you are using a laptop equipped with Windows or MacOS, you can use Inssider to measure Wi-Fi signal intensity.

However, when you walk around while staring at the screen with your laptop in your hand, please be careful about your feet.

How to eliminate the Wi-Fi dead zone

Once you know the exact position of the Wi-Fi dead zone, you need to eliminate the dead zone.

Here are some tips to reinforce the signal range of Wi-Fi.

1.Move the router to the right place

If a router is placed in a house, apartment, or office corner, the corner on the other side of the building may be a dead zone.

Let's move the router at the center of the building.

2.Adjust and replace the router antenna

Is the router antenna turned straight up?

If the antenna is horizontal, the range of Wi-Fi will be narrowed.

If the antenna is already the optimal angle, replace it with a more powerful antenna and expand the Wi-Fi signal.

3.Identify and move obstacles

If the Wi-Fi router is placed next to the metal file cabinet, the signal strength will decrease.

In such a case, change the layout of the room to make it an ideal signal strength.

If there is an obstacle that seems to be creating a dead zone, such as a microwave oven or aquarium, or a dead zone, is it eliminated by moving either the obstacle or router.Let's check.

Four.Switch to low -frequency radio frequency

Use the tools introduced above to find the most crowded wireless frequency.

By changing the router frequency accordingly, interference from other wireless networks can be reduced.

Five.Use a relay device

If you try any of the above, you can set the Wi-Fi relay device to expand the range of Wi-Fi signals. This may be absolutely necessary in a large house or office.

You can also use an unused router as a relayer.

There are many ways to reuse old routers, which is one of them.

6.Use Ethernet connection

You can also connect to the net using an Ethernet cable.

If your PC is near the router, you don't have to worry about the Wi-Fi signal weaker if you connect these two using Ethernet.

7.Use a PLC adapter

If you don't want the cable to be messed up in the corridor, use a PLC adapter.

One is a room with a dead zone, and the other is powered in a room with a router.

Enhance the Wi-Fi signal and spend comfortably

There are various causes of Wi-Fi dead zone.

It can be caused by the location of the router, the neighborhood of the building, the material of the building wall, the range of the router in use, the type of electronic device used, and furniture.

There are many, but let's find out the culprit through trial and error.

If you want to enhance the router signal, be sure to grasp how to increase the Wi-Fi signal and expand the range of covering.
