On April 1st, APNIC and CloudFlare launched the free public DNS service "1.1.1.1".
CloudFlare states that the 1.1.1.1 service does not record the user's IP address, and to prove this, to conduct KPMG audits every year.
According to the official website, the response speed measured by the DNS monitor "DNSPERF" is 14.8 ms, greatly higher than the average (68.23 ms) of general ISP DNS services, and Google Public DNS (34.7ms), Cisco Open DNS.More than public DNS services such as (20.6ms).It is about 28 % fast.
It can be used on a PC, smartphone, and router, and the official website explains the setup method in each environment for using the 1.1.1.1 public DNS service.
For example, in Windows 10, [Change Adapter Options] in [Network and Internet] in [Settings] or [Network and Sharing Center] in [Control Panel] in [Control Panel].Select [Change Adapter Settings] and display the property of "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" from "Ethernet (different in the environment)", and as follows.Set the "priority DNS server" in the address "1.1.1.1" and the alternative DNS server to "1.0.0.1".In addition, IPv6 setting address "2606: 4700: 4700 :: 1111" and "2606: 4700: 4700 :: 1001" are also provided.
Even if the communication at the time of the Internet connection is encrypted, ISPs that provide DNS services and third parties who eavesdrop on the network can browse and collect the history of the user's connection website. It is said that these data are now mainly used for targeting ads.
In the United States, ISP's sales of users' web browsing data were restricted, but in March 2017, the Senate Council passed a bill to abolish these rules.
