Hello! I'm refeia, an illustrator. This time, we will review the tablet "MediaPad M5 Pro" released by Huawei in June. Personally, I mainly use Android smartphones, and I have evaluated some Android devices with a pressure stylus in the past, so I was originally paying attention to this field.
The MediaPad M5 Pro that appeared there, a 10.8-inch screen, and a pen that supports 4096 levels of pen pressure and tilt detection are included, so it seems promising. I've always had the impression that only iPads and Windows tablets can be used for drawing, but I'd like to dream that Android tablets can also be used!
So, this time, I decided to name and touch it according to my own interests. Will my dreams come true?
The size of the display is 10.8 inches, so it is exactly the same size as the "10.5 inch iPad Pro", but it looks compact because it is slightly elongated. And the first thing that impresses me is the good finish of the exterior.
Fine finish exteriorThe 2.5D glass with rounded edges, the metal housing where the resin seams are neatly connected, and the corners of the USB Type-C connector's mouth are also mildly dropped, making it smooth to the touch except for the camera part. And there is no hard part to hit. I think it's a very fine finish.
The screen display is also high quality with 2560 x 1600 pixels and good color development, but the specification I personally want to recommend is that standard color development is offered as an option.
You can adjust the strength of color development and white balance.I also use the company's smartphone, but because the color is more vivid than average, sometimes the red color is too intense and it gets stuck in my eyes, and it is difficult to adjust the photo to show to people, so I was in trouble. This is very nice.
In addition, the pen is also very crisp, and the rattling of the core is smaller than Wacom's "Pro Pen 2". And this ... When you click the clip of the pen, the USB Type-C charging terminal will appear. This is a product of great moderation. I want a certain "designer of a very good performance pencil" to regain his sanity ....
In addition, it works as a pen even while charging. The pen weighs about 17.5g. It contributes to high quality for writing, but I think it may be a little lighter for drawing.
Another thing, it has nothing to do with drawing, but I was impressed, so let me write it. The sound is good. It's just a tablet frame, and although it loses to the "12.9-inch iPad Pro" that I compared at hand due to the size difference, it sounds up to a considerably loud volume without collapsing. It is a nice specification for watching BGM, games, and media while working.
On the other hand, there are some unfortunate points.
One is the position of the charging terminal. Since it is located at the bottom when placed horizontally, it looks good when placed on a stand, but it is hard to hold it to death if it is held sideways while connected. You can hold it upside down, but it's sad that the HUAWEI logo that comes to the top and comes into view is always upside down.
Position of charging terminalThe other is the rear camera. The bulge is large, and the image is much lower than the company's smartphone. The bulge is also angular, and it protrudes about 0.5 mm from the natural desk surface when placed on the desk. The lens of the camera unit is also small, and it seems that a small sensor is used from the metadata of the photograph, so it is doubtful whether it was necessary to make it protrude so far.
Rear camera bulgeThe bulge did not rattle when placed on the desk, but the tablet is pressed against the desk with more force than a smartphone, especially while using the pen. Depending on the material of the desk, it is a specification that hesitates to slide and move when placed directly.
However, it stands out because the quality level of the housing is high, but I don't think both of them are big problems.
