　Following the Office Suite's subscription service "Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)", Microsoft has launched the Windows 365 virtual desktop service that allows Windows OS itself to be operated and remotely available on the cloud.Until now, virtual desktop services such as "Azure Virtual Desktop" have been provided, but the procedures for starting to be used have become much easier.

　In this article, I signed a Windows 365 and experienced the cloud PC "Cloud PC" provided by Windows 365.Let's summarize the usability and problems of the cloud PC that we found out from there.

What is Windows 365?

　Windows 365 is a service that allows Windows 10 on the virtual machine on the cloud (support Windows 11 in the future) to be available on the web browser.It would be easier to understand that Windows PCs placed in the company were prepared on the cloud on a remote desktop from home.

　Because it can be accessed on a web browser, it is convenient to use Windows 10 on iPad, Android tablet, and Chromebook, not Windows PC.

　However, it is important to note that unlike the PC placed in the company, it is on the cloud, so it is necessary to devise a device such as connecting to an in -house network by VPN in order to access internal resources.

　Windows 365 has two editions, "Business" for small and medium -sized businesses and "Enterprise" for large companies.The Business Edition supports 300 (users), and the Enterprise edition support unlimited users.

　Both editions are provided and their prices are equivalent, but to apply for the Enterprise edition, you need a Windows 10 Pro Subscription, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Azure Active Directory P1 license.Companies that buy subscriptions such as Microsoft 365 F3 and Microsoft 365 E3 for companies will be eligible for companies.

　There are also differences in network speed and billing.The Business Edition says that the outbound data set in the application plan (data transferred from the cloud PC to the outside) is applied, and the bandwidth will vary depending on the situation.It is important to note that in the case of usage that has a lot of interaction with external sites, the Business Edition may be restricted.

　On the other hand, the Enterprise edition uses Azure virtual networks.Therefore, the network of the Enterprise edition is applied to the Azure bandwidth performance and price.Please note that depending on the application, you may be charged a high price.

　In this way, the Business Edition and the Enterprise edition provide similar plans, but the content is small.

　As mentioned above, Windows 365 has two editions, "Business" and "Enterprise", each with multiple plans with VCPU (virtual CPU) and memory capacity and storage capacity.

　Here, we will briefly introduce the Business Edition plan that many people will be targeted.

　The cheapest plan is 1VCPU, 2GB memory, and 64GB storage for 3260 yen / month per user (excluding tax.If you are using Windows 10 Pro, it can be used from 2720 yen / month because a 500 yen discount is applied as "Windows benefits".

　This plan is inexpensive, but the minimum requirements for Windows 10 are satisfied.However, the memory capacity and storage capacity are barely possible.In addition, there is no plan that increases the memory capacity and storage capacity with 1VCPU.Therefore, the work that can be executed on this machine is likely to be limited.

　On the other hand, plans with 2VCPUs and above support the desktop version of Office apps (Office licenses are required separately), VCPU 2-8, memory 4-32GB, storage is 64-512GB.

　Microsoft recommendations in the BUSINESS edition in the table below.Each plan can change the memory capacity and storage capacity (there are some restrictions on the combination of memory capacity and storage capacity).

　If the end user uses it in office work, the BASIC plan would be enough.

I purchased Windows 365 and tried it

　I wanted to try it in the trial version, but at the time of writing the manuscript, the trial version could not be used because the new trial subscription has been paused because it has been requested more than expected.So I purchased a Basic plan and tried what kind of service Windows 365 was.

　The trial version is scheduled to be resumed, so if you are considering introducing Windows 365, you should wait for the trial version to resume (two months will be profitable).Especially in the case of the Business Edition, VCPU, memory, and storage cannot be expanded, so depending on the application, the performance and capacity are not enough, so even if you set up, it is necessary to cancel the Windows 365 subscription and apply again.It may be.It would be safer to check how much resources are optimal in the trial version.

　Let's apply for Windows 365.Nevertheless, it is not difficult in the Business edition, just select a plan on the application page and enter necessary information such as name, email address, and credit card information.

　Start the web browser and open the following URL.

　If there is no problem with the Basic / Standard / Premium plan, click the [Purchase now] button under the plan explanation.If you want to change the configuration (VCPU number, memory capacity, storage capacity), click the [Configure your Windows 365] button below the description of each plan.

　The configuration of the cloud PC can be selected on the next screen.If there is one VCPU, please note that the memory capacity and storage capacity cannot be selected.Also, depending on the number of VCPUs and memory capacity, the selected storage capacity changes.

　In the "Windows hybrid benefit" column at the bottom of this screen, select "Yes" if you have a Windows 10 Pro license, and if not.Using the Windows hybrid benefits, you can get a maximum of 16 % discount.According to Windows 365's "frequently asked questions," to continue using hybrid benefits, "access to devices with Windows 10 Pro License during the period are required during the period."

　When the configuration of the cloud PC can be selected, click the [Purchase now] button.

　Sign in with the created Windows 365 account, and after a while, you will be able to prepare (set) a cloud PC (during that time, you will proceed with the cloud PC explanation wizard).
